Trainer Experience:
A truly effective training program is one that adapts to the horse, not the other way around. Jonathan Robles has built his career on this philosophy, specializing in Reining, Colt Starting, and Dressage. With approximately 13 years of professional experience, JR’s path into the industry is uniquely inspiring; he didn’t start working with horses until age 24. Initially cleaning stalls to learn the basics after a background in college football and professional basketball.
Holding degrees in Psychology and Sociology from the University of Oregon, JR utilizes his education to bridge the communication gap between horse and rider. He views his work as “live art,” influenced by natural horsemanship legends like Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance. Today, he operates full-time out of Clover Oak Ranch, where he provides a holistic training environment that treats every horse with the patience and individualized care of a therapist.”

JR Horse Training Program
At JR Horse Training, the goal is to produce a well-rounded athlete that is light in the bridle and happy in their work. JR’s program is highly selective, focusing on long-term development rather than quick fixes.
· Elite Colt Starting: JR requires a minimum of 4 months for young horses, ensuring they are never rushed and receive the proper foundational groundwork before a rider even enters the stirrup.
· Performance Reining: Specializes in developing confident prospects for NRHA-aged events, with a focus on precision maneuvers and mental longevity.
· Natural Horsemanship & Dressage: Integrates dressage exercises to improve a horse’s suppleness and body control, creating a versatile and high-performing athlete.
· Natural Horsemanship & Dressage: Integrates dressage exercises to improve a horse’s suppleness and body control, creating a versatile and high-performing athlete.
· Coaching & Lessons: Includes weekly lessons for owners within his training program to ensure the partnership continues to flourish once the horse returns home.
JR’s philosophy emphasizes that “patience is competitive.” By slowing down the process and prioritizing the horse’s mental well-being, he achieves higher-caliber results that endure throughout the horse’s competitive career.
